Town of Berthoud, Colorado
In 1877 the Colorado Central Railroad built additional rails from Longmont through Loveland and into Cheyenne, Wyo. They added a station that they built at the trestle over the Little Thompson River and named it "Berthoud" after their civil engineer and surveyor, Edward Berthoud. This station was built on the homestead of Lewis Cross who had already opened a post office in his home there and was calling it "Little Thompson".
