A new place to catch public transit opened on the campus of Colorado State University in the Lory Student Center.  This $8.24 million project increases public transit and puts an emphasis from bikes to buses.  Anyone can ride this new public transit which includes students, faculty and transit riders.  The new 14,500 square foot addition includes a convenience store; information and ticket booths; and monitors that offer departure times, weather reports, games and news.  This project was funded by the Federal Transit Administration.

This new building is also within the standards of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED.  An amazing part of the reconstruction of the Lory Student Center is that 75% of the old building was recycled into the new facility.  According to Mike Ellis, executive director of the student center, “As an educational institution, we have an obligation to teach about making responsible choices related to our environment.” “We thing buildings can – and should – teach us about health, sustainable choices.  By making and fostering healthy choices, we also create a healthier community and a more robust local economy.  What better place to do this than our very own premier, public research university?”
