Northern Colorado Real Estate Conservation Easement
By BuyandSellColorado.com
Easement deals lead to inquiry, an article from The Denver Post, reports that a state investigation into possible abuses of the conservation easement program aims to ensure that the federal government and Colorado aren't losing out on millions of dollars in tax revenue. The conservation easement program allows landowners to get tax deductions and earn tax credits in exchange for restricting development on their land. Preserving scenic view, land for outdoor recreation and natural habitat are among a few of the reasons for the easements. In Colorado, conservation easements have been booming because of changes to state law that allow the tax credits to be sold. There were $2.3 million in tax credits issued in 2001 and last year, $85.1 million in tax credits were issued.
